Joycelyn received her doctorate in The Justice-led Participatory Design of Conservation Technology from the University of Cambridge in 2026. Working with a marginalised forest community in Ghana, her research investigated the sociotechnical implications and design opportunities that emerge from participatory ecoacoustic research with marginalised communities, and developed methods for the justice-oriented design and deployment of conservation technologies.
As a storyteller, consultant and public educator, Joycelyn’s work spans published books, essays, TV, film and documentary, speaking, strategy and advisory. Previous clients include leading institutions, such as The Design Council, The Design Museum, Nasdaq, Meta, The Barbican, The Wellcome Collection, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, The Environmental Funders Network, and The Serpentine, amongst others. Joycelyn is a trusted board member, trustee and ambassador for a range of organisations, including Action For Conservation, the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, ZeroHour’s Climate and Nature Bill, and Earth/Percent.
